Data Solutions Project Manager

Purpose

To serve as the School Trust’s primary architect for data strategy and systems integration. The Data Solutions Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the school’s digital infrastructure is not just functional, but intelligent, interconnected, and secure.

This role sits at the intersection of technical engineering and project management, acting as the pivotal link within the School’s IT Services team, tasked with transforming complex information into accessible tools for staff. By combining database administration, custom development, and governance, the role will eliminate inefficiencies and ensure that decision-making and operations across the School Trust are grounded in accurate data intelligence.

The role reports directly to the IT Trust Manager and operates as a core technical specialist within the wider IT Services team alongside the Network Manager and Technical Engineers.

Crucially, the role requires a tight strategic alliance with the School’s Director of Innovation & Development to prioritise projects, along with regular dialogue with the CFOO and key operational heads such as Admissions, Exams, and Pastoral.

Main duties and responsibilities

Database Management

  • Hold principal responsibility for the configuration, health, and output of the Trust’s MIS
  • Ensure the system functions as the authoritative backbone of operations, maintaining fidelity of information
  • Oversee and improve data flow between core systems and platforms such as My School Portal, SOCS, Reach Boarding, and Vectare

Data Analysis

  • Translate complex datasets into actionable insights, dashboards, and visualisations
  • Respond to SLT data requests with clean, structured outputs for decision-making

Strategic Project Management

  • Own data projects end to end, defining scope, deliverables, and implementation plans
  • Run pilot schemes and evaluate outcomes against agreed KPIs before wider rollout
  • Ensure sustainable handover of solutions with documentation and training

Programming

  • Develop bespoke code to extend existing systems
  • Automate manual administrative processes using APIs and integrations
  • Leverage Google Workspace and AI tools to build intelligent workflows

Data Protection

  • Act as technical advisor to the CFOO on data protection and compliance
  • Build systems to support registers, reporting workflows, and oversight
  • Manage SAR delivery using efficient, technology-led processes
  • Conduct DPIAs and embed privacy controls into system design

Maintaining the Staff Intranet

  • Manage structure and lifecycle of the staff intranet
  • Work with departments to maintain useful and current content

Training and Professional Development

  • Train staff and produce supporting materials for systems use

Primary Interfaces

  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure system stability and security
  • Partner with innovation leads to deliver new digital initiatives
  • Report regularly to the CFOO on compliance and risk

Professional Development

  • Maintain continuous professional development
  • Develop expertise in AI and emerging technologies
  • Stay current with data privacy and cybersecurity developments

Skills and Requirements

Essential

  • Strong Google Workspace, MIS, and SQL capability
  • Ability to translate data into clear reports
  • Experience managing technical projects end to end
  • Experience with GDPR processes including SARs and DPIAs
  • Experience managing an intranet or knowledge base
  • Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving and independent working capability
  • High integrity when handling confidential data
