2nd Line Support Engineer

About this role 

You will be based at a client school near Eastbourne, East Sussex, providing specialist IT support. Working under the guidance of a Network Manager, you will support the delivery of reliable, secure IT systems that enable high-quality learning. This is a hands-on role within a growing ICT managed services provider working exclusively in the UK education sector.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd line technical support for hardware, software, networks, servers, and cloud platforms
  • Support day-to-day IT operations alongside the Network Manager or Trust Network Manager
  • Build, configure, and maintain PCs and networked devices (including image deployment)
  • Administer Active Directory, Azure AD and Microsoft 365
  • Manage user accounts, backups, malware protection and disaster recovery tasks
  • Log, track and resolve helpdesk tickets in line with SLAs
  • Maintain IT asset records and manage stock levels
  • Support staff training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, data protection, safeguarding, and health & safety requirements
  • Assist with projects and occasional out-of-hours work when required

Skills and requirements

  • 2–3 years’ experience in an IT support or helpdesk environment
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of wired/wireless networks and devices
  • Experience with Active Directory, Azure AD and Microsoft 365
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical users
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Relevant qualifications (A-Level, BTEC, NVQ or similar)
  • Industry certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, Aruba, Apple) desirable
  • Education sector experience desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS check required
